It was a missin’ word case. I’d been ‘ired to find RECEIVE.
A ruthless imposter was trying to steal ‘is identity—impressive disguise but not quite perfect.
I questioned this ‘RECIEVE’.
“Where is ‘e?”
RECIEVE sneered. “Pretend he never existed and I’ll make it worth your while. Pretend it’s always been i before e.”
“I always put my client first,” I snarled. “It’s got to be ‘e before I.”
The Rule giggled drunkenly.
“In the old days everyone obeyed me. Now I’m just ignored…”
“Yeah, yeah,” said the Detective. “Look, Ms. I Before E Except After C—”
“Call me Rule…”
“—’ave you seen RECEIVE or not?”
The Rule stared into her glass. “No.”
The Detective considered her with disgust. “It’s no wonder words won’t obey you. I wouldn’t.”
“Not surprised you think that,” sighed The Rule. “You’re WEIRD.”
You can’t quite put your finger on the point it all started to go wrong.
The work just gradually dried up.
And by the time you understood an imposter had taken over it was too late. You’d been trapped inside the book.
Will no-one ever come to your rescue?
Will no-one ever look at RECIEVE and realise something is awry?
Will no-one ever think of looking in the dictionary?

Escaping with style
There were no blaring sirens or flashing lights as I dashed down the corridors, but there might as well have been. Data streaming across one side of my goggles told me that I had successfully triggered the alarm when I took the hard drive stack. I knew I had four and a half minutes until the security forces arrived. When I reached the security door I was already sending signals to my devices connected into the system. A crude video relay looped images of the empty corridor into the security camera feeds. The data mining box cut the stream of keyword-laden signals with which it had been scattering the building system’s attention. Grinning at my own ingenuity, I hit the unlock button. How many other thieves would have got in by manipulating the mood of a building’s computer systems? But then, how many other thieves understood the emergent emotional states of high end electronics? This was why I'd been hired. The door failed to hiss open. Frowning, I slapped the button again. Still

Crushing Fate
The piercing arrow went straight through your heart Hope’s pulse was great in defeat To revel no longer Lost in the storm Of passion, we tear up The darkest will rise again Forget it all, Never again to See the sunrise Lose what you hold most dear How could we Strike back? We fight Without hope And no longer Fearless Because, it spread out, encompassing hope And this chapter came to a close We were drenched in burning despair Then were pushed down by this crushing fate Reverse the clock, Turn back the page Oh, sacred song, Unlock this cage And we pushed back, crushing fate And are dead set on burning despair Every soul starts drawing close To that matchless, encompassing hope Fearless And no longer Without hope We fight Strike back! How could we Lose what we hold most dear? See the sunrise, Never again to Forget it all Lost in the storm of passion We tear up the darkest will Rise again The piercing arrow went straight Through your heart

FFM 2020: Grow
“Papa, don’t forget to do your injection.” Cara calls from the other room, and tilts her head around the corner of the door, just to check. Her father sees her, and rolls his eyes, his face creasing with old laugh lines. “I won’t forget.” Which is what he always says, but she knows better, and leaves the living room lights on because otherwise he’ll just fall asleep in his chair. “You’re meant to take it on a schedule.” Always the same exchange, every night. But she’s glad for it, because it means he’s still here. He grumbles, but to her surprise he gets up, grimacing with pain as his legs creak beneath him like old wood. Every day, the disease reaches a little further, takes over a little more of him. The medicine helps, but he has to take it regularly or it won’t work. Sometimes Cara wonders if it’s some subconscious thing. Maybe he wants to die. Maybe he’s tired. Maybe, it’s all of those things. She knows plenty of people live for years with the treatment, and manage to have

207 words = 3 x 69.
Written for Flash Fiction Month 2016: Day 11.
Today's challenge:
369 Mystery
Firstly: Your story must be a MYSTERY, of some kind.
Secondly: Your story must be a 369'er - In other words, three separate, but interrelated, stories of exactly 69 words each.
Lastly: You must write your challenge using three different Narrative POV’s or "Points of View" - specifically, First Person, Second Person, and Third Person. That means even if you're writing everything from the perspective of the same character, you'll still need to use a different POV in each 69 word story, though the order in which you use them is up to you.
