...former employee Kevin Prometheus insisted that the software had never belonged to MountOlympus, and that the company had illegally claimed ownership.

“It was developed with the intention of being free and for the good of humanity,” he declared earlier today. “That’s why I decided to make it available to everyone. It was time to stand up to them.”

MountOlympus maintains that it was within its rights to refuse free access to the software and demands that Prometheus be prosecuted.

@_prometheus_k Hope you thought it was worth it—taking on a big company like that.

Had enough of attacks by ‘company supporters’. Not going to be around for a while.

“Hello, my name is Dr. Asclepius. Mr. Kevin Prometheus has you listed as an emergency contact on his phone…”

Kevin Prometheus was rushed to hospital yesterday evening because of an apparent suicide attempt. It is believed he was depressed after being attacked over the MountOlympus affair via Twitter.

His brother Michael has confirmed that he suffered liver failure due to taking an overdose and will need a transplant.

“We’re all greatly concerned,” he said.

Mr. Prometheus has two other brothers, Andrew and Edward.

Hi, A. He’s had the operation—recovering well! Can you let E know?

He’s home! Everything looking good.

Kev, you OK? Come on—reply to my texts. I’m worrying.

Andy, found K passed out drunk. Taking him to hospital.

It’s serious. He might lose the liver.

Regained consciousness. Says those stupid tweets started up again.

In a twist today to the Kevin Prometheus story, Hercules Zeusson turned evidence over to the police implicating his father in the cyberbullying.

“I just thought the attacks had to stop,” stated Zeusson. “Dad has to stop thinking he’s a god who can get away with anything he wants.”

Written for Flash Fiction 2015: Day 9

Today's challenge has four parts.

The Ordinary - Your story must include something that you can see every day, that you think most people also see on a daily basis. (Smartphone.)

The Extraordinary - Every character in your story must have originated from legends or mythology. They don't all have to be from the same set of stories, and they don't need to be explicitly named, but it should be clear to anyone in the know who each character is. (Prometheus, Zeus, Hercules, Epimetheus, Atlas, Menoetius, Asclepius.)

The Modern - The central conflict of your story must be something modern- a problem that someone might be facing now, but one that no one would have recognized fifteen or twenty years ago. (Cyberbullying via Twitter.)

The Shameful - Your story must include something that you feel most people deal with, that no one wants to talk about. (Despair and depression.)

I like the way you modernized this - the liver failure was an especially nice touch. Others have complained about the tweets: I found those fine, but the texts confusing, since I wasn't always sure who was sending them to whom.

How'd you manage the tweets, by the way? I included one in my day 9 story as well, but because of dA's newish system of linking to dA users with @[username], and not wanting to risk accidentally linking to someone I didn't know and implying them to be a Norse goddess, I left off the label. It's something I'm still unsatisfied about, so I'd be glad to have a way to be sure it wouldn't link to anyone even if someone made a new account someday.
