Literature Text
There had been weeks of solitary searching—that mighty river leading him on and on—but at last Albert Braithwaite had found his heart’s desire.
And he had survived the ensuing test—those agonising days of waiting and contemplation.
But finally he had his reward! A reward beyond what he had hoped for; a reward beyond what he had ever expected!
At first he was gladdened by this good fortune but slowly he began to consider. Was this too much for one man? Did he in truth deserve to keep it all?
All day and all night, he examined his heart, and all day and all night the name of that mighty river pounded and pounded in his mind. And finally Albert knew what he had to do...
He accessed his account and let Amazon know they had sent him two toasters, when he had truly only ordered one.

A Return
Her hands descend
deep into old pockets,
casting back darkness
from forlorn talismans.
She returns! Always
a surprise inside to witness
her divine whorls reappearing,
her heartbeat, the drum therein, the light!
A judgement and resurrection,
scrolls, bones and veils rattled up
called forward from some grave.
Coins cross eyes and old life breathes new.
This springtime mantle. Oh, yes!
Reclamation! Her former self lifts
those bright, timeless charms
that were and are and will again to be.

A Confluence of Time
October 4th, 2012.
Matthew Lyman stepped outside of the Quik-N'-Easy where he had so disgracefully worked for the last two-and-a-half years. It was early evening, and he was halfway through his afternoon shift. He absentmindedly reached into the pocket of his red and yellow jacket, searching fruitlessly for a pack of cigarettes that were not there. Confused, he scowled and began chastising himself for his forgetfulness. He turned to reenter the dingy, poorly-lit convenience store; running his left hand through his short, dark, unkempt hair; before remembering that he had not forgotten his cigarettes — he had quit two weeks ago, and

Written for Flash Fiction Month 2017: Day 1.
Well, off to an excellent start - a day late with the first challenge ^^" But anyway, the challenge I ended up with yesterday was:
Big Damn Heroes
ONE: The main point of view character is a "hero".
TWO: The plot hinges upon the trope What You Are In the Dark.
And handily I did have a hero I had made earlier. Here are Albert Braithwaite's other adventures from FFM 2015 & FFM 2016:

A Saga of CerealLet us sing of Albert Braithwaite and his quest! His voyage to the supermarket! His mission to buy cornflakes!
And so he approached the supermarket and gained entrance.
Everywhere there were temptations that sang to him. But his wisdom was strong. Do not look directly at the showy sirens who would take your gold. Rather look down towards the own brand items. For they are better value.
He travelled on.
In his path were clusters of creatures with tongues to talk, but neither eyes nor ears to perceive him. His many requests of “Excuse me, please. I’d quite like to get through” went unheeded.
Temporarily defeated, he retreated and found another way through the maze.
But the glamour was becoming stronger. He felt his reason starting to leave him. Taking shelter by the cheese and onion crisps, he produced pen and ink and captured the words as they floated from his mind.
And lo! Albert strode forward, looking neither to the left or right, but keeping his path straight and tr
A Light in the DarknessAlbert Braithwaite gazed down in triumph at his treasure. His search had indeed not been in vain. For he had endeavoured to discover the very last of these elusive and sought after glass orbs.
He plucked it from its soft casket and held it reverently, fearful of causing it any harm.
But he could not rest long. He looked upwards and set his jaw.
There was yet further to go.
Thus, by the rays of the glistening moon, he began to climb—up and up, ever on. Until he was able to stretch up his arm, and in doing so cautiously touch the orb’s final resting place.
He delicately eased the orb in and bestowed upon it a resolute twist.
He drew his hand away.
The orb held!
As swiftly as he dared, he made his descent. And once he was on firm ground, he felt in the gloom for the appointed protrusion.
‘Tis a fool who assumes the journey is ended before taking the final step. Albert Braithwaite closed his eyes, inhaled deeply, and pressed the protrusion.
All at once, everywhere was bat

Haha, I love how this ended. Totally didn't see the more mundane setting coming!
