SHEEP and HAVE were having a cocktail at the Lexicon Lounge. SHEEP seemed somewhat morose.

“I’m fed up. My life just doesn’t seem to have much meaning. Well, it’s really only two meanings, isn’t it? Ruminant mammal and person too easily led.”

It removed the little umbrella and took a swig of its Prefix on the Noun. It waved the glass in HAVE’s direction.

“I wish my life was more like yours. You get to do such interesting stuff.”

HAVE gazed into its Subjunctive Sling. “Do I? I don’t know. I just don’t know. I’m so busy all the time. Is it really worth it?”

“It is! I’d much rather have your life than mine.”

SHEEP gave a half-sob.

“I’m… just so tired of following the herd.”

“Ha!”

SHEEP looked at HAVE. “What?”

“Nothing.”

HAVE blew bubbles down its straw.

It frowned, and tried sucking instead.

“Well, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to have a complete makeover!” said SHEEP. “You won’t recognise me.”

“Fair enough.”

HAVE stared groggily at SHEEP.

“Who are you again?”

They met up at the lounge again a week later.

“So what do you think?”

SHEEP sat down opposite HAVE.

“About my new look!”

HAVE leant forward and stared hard.

“I’m not sure I...?”

“Oh, for…” SHEEP sighed. “I’ve gone plural!”

“Oh-h-h-h-h-h.”

HAVE nodded.

“Subtle. I like it.”
